Summary (goals and purposes of the project)
The purpose of the project is to develop and upgrade the innovative and alternative forms of educational work for the successful integration of children and pupils of the Roma in the education system. Activities will be implemented primarily in the environments where the members of the Roma community live, as the current evaluation has shown that the successful integration of Roma children raises important social and cultural capital of the Roma community. This is a special emphasis on the development of family literacy, the implementation of different forms of learning assistance to Roma children and the promotional activities and programmes for cooperation between professionals, parents and Roma children as well as their cooperation with the non-Roma population and the professional development of staff.

The project seeks to increase the long-term integration of Roma children into various forms of pre-school programmes to achieve greater success of Roma children in the education system, reduce school drop-out among Roma children and reduce prejudices among practitioners in schools and kindergartens.

The project includes extra-curricular activities for Roma children, pupils and students, which will be carried out in the centers of the Centre of Curricular and Extracurricular Activities and in the Roma educational incubators; and functioning of Roma assistants. The task of the latter is to help Roma children overcome emotional and linguistic barriers, establishing and maintaining contact between parents and school and to work with children in Roma settlements and Roma educational incubators.

Results of the project
Within the project Roma, the assistants carry out their work in 31 schools and kindergartens. They assist Roma children to overcome emotional and linguistic barriers and represent a link between parents and school. The programme is running at 10 locations and in Roma educational incubators, which include educational assistance to Roma pupils and a variety of leisure activities for both school and pre-school children. A preparatory kindergarten operates in the village KERINOV GRM. At different locations in Slovenia, a number of extra-curricular activities is carried out in the form of learning and outdoor excursions for Roma children.
