The Ministry of Culture (www.mk.gov.en) supports the cultural activities of the Roma community in Slovenia through a special programme. The Roma projects have been a part of the special programme of the Ministry of Culture since 1993. First the projects were submitted by the Association of Cultural Organisations of Slovenia, from 1997 on by the Roma Union of Slovenia (former Slovenian Union of Roma Associations); from 2000 on the projects have also been individually prepared by Roma associations (if they have fulfilled the conditions), while since 2006 the authors themselves - members of the Roma ethnic minority - can apply with their projects.
Due to the fact that the relatively small number of professional staff and artists is regularly an issue of the minorities, i.e. also the Roma minority, the opportunity posed by the European structural funds for training and employment (also self-employment) of the Roma people in the field of culture and for people who want to train and employ themselves in the field of preservation and development of the Roma culture is very welcome.
