Summary (goals and purposes of the project)
The goal of the project is to empower professionals and experts who already work with persons with intellectual disabilities or with the Roma. Through targeted education based on an innovative curriculum, they will become qualified to support the Roma with intellectual disability and their families. Moreover, they will become competent to raise awareness among the Roma about intellectual disabilities in order to combat discrimination and to enhance the acceptance of intellectually disabled Roma in their own society and society in general.
The concrete aims and objectives of the project are:
• to conduct a survey on the awareness of intellectual disabilities within the Roma communities and among other relevant stakeholders;
• to define conceptual and contextual guidance for the educational curriculum, based on the results of the survey;
• to develop the curriculum into a 50-hour course for the professional education of experts;
• to prepare the teaching materials, a manual for trainers, a manual for trainees and a teaching DV;
• to implement the curriculum in practice through a 50-hour course for the professional education of experts;
• to promote the goals and objectives of the project among the general public and to raise general awareness about the double discrimination against intellectually disabled Roma in this way;
• to design a plan for future dissemination of the curriculum and teaching materials in other countries in order to ensure sustained project value.
