Summary (goals and purposes of the project)
The main objective was to research using a qualitative comparative method to formulate recommendations for improving the integration of migrants at the local level and to contribute to the improved functioning of the government in relation to migrants.

The specific objectives of the project were:
1. To identify the factors that affect the functioning of the government in relation to migrants and to describe the strategies that the governments in Slovakia and abroad apply against migrants.
2. To access the governments' analyses on the issue of the integration of migrants in the light of specific policies on integration in the countries where the research phase of the project was conducted. To evaluate and make recommendations for improving the integration of migrants at the local level.
3. To improve the access to the government issues of the integration of migrants in the society through the dissemination of information and knowledge by establishing a long-term cooperation with the municipalities, aiming to enhance the level of integration of migrants at the local level.

Results of the project
The research was conducted as a qualitative comparative research using the case method. In the project we examined three sites that already have experience with the integration of migrants (one locality in Slovakia, the other two were investigated in the Czech Republic and Austria). The comparative dimension of the project was to compare the situation in Slovakia with other EU countries, and thus contribute to the formulation of appropriate recommendations for policies implemented at the local level.

Who will benefit from this project (target group)
The final analysis of research findings, which aimed to make recommendations for the formulation of effective strategies, was distributed to local governments and the wider professional community. The research report entitled Integration of Migrants at the Local Level - Research findings and recommendations is freely available.
