Summary (goals and purposes of the project)
The preparation for school for Roma Children of age 5-6 years old. The social integration of Roma Children in society through schools. Psychological support to Roma communities of ex-swamp area of Durres and Elbasan. Application of guidebook methodology in prep-up courses and first classes as a pilot program for its inclusion in the state curricula of preschool education. The development of 2 academic and social prep-up courses for 90 Roma children prior to first grade for duration of 3 months. The integration of Roma children in schools of Ex-swamp area of Durres and Elbasan. Pre - Capacity building of teachers.
The networking of Institute of Curricula, MoE, DoE of Durres and Elbasan. The raising of awareness among the Roma communities of Durres and Elbasan
Results of the project
The development of 6 academic and social prep-up courses for 150 Roma children prior to first grade for duration of 8.5 months in total. The integration of 150 Roma children in schools of Ex-swamp area of Durres and Elbasan. Training of 81 teachers who raised their capacities in educating preschool Roma children. In cooperation with Ministry of Education and Sciences the project published a very useful manual “Guiding Booklet for teachers of Preschool Program for Roma Children” which supports and facilitates teachers in all regions of Albania in working with preschool Roma children. The community centers have achieved to aware and mobilize Roma community through high involvement and participation in this project (347 families). 4 Roma mothers are currently Community Mediators with the aim of awareness to the Roma community of Elbasan. The establishment of Roma organization “Voice of Roma Women” which was initiated by the Roma mothers of children and supported by the center of Elbasan. Agreements with Directorate of schools create a sustainable ground for future work (7 agreements)
